The U.S. National Development Program (USDNP), administered by the United States Golf Association (USGA), has created THRIVE™, a blueprint for supporting the development of American players toward excellence and wellbeing. The Heathrow Legacy Junior Performance Academy programs are designed to adhere to the principles described by "THRIVE." Each letter encompasses a particular key to a golfer reaching their fullest competitive potential. THRIVE means to grow or develop well; to progress toward or realize a goal despite, or because of, circumstance; and to achieve successful performance.

 

Cheryl's intention at Heathrow Legacy Club is to offer support, training and opportunities for athletes to have the greatest probability to THRIVE in golf and life, just like the USGA is doing for its USNDP members include national and state junior team members. The USNDP goals transcend scores, aiming to instill a lifelong engagement with the game, nurturing athletes who contribute to a lasting, inclusive golf community. 

 

As a member of the USNDP's advisory team, Cheryl works with the USGA to take a lead role in developing and delivering the core tenets of the National Team's THRIVE training model to local juniors at Heathrow Legacy Club. This is a unique opportunity to be one of the first to benefit from the USNDP’s expertise into holistic golfer performance.

College Prep Program

For junior golfers under 18 who currently compete in any level of tournament play

Why It Works

Consistent weekly sessions allow your child to practice efficiently and effectively under my personal supervision. Full swing, short game and putting will be covered in each 90-minute training session. Your child will train with the same group for the 9-week cycle which allows them to develop a sense of camaraderie. The monthly lesson will focus on building proper technique. Key points from these private lessons will be reinforced during each weekly session. Over the past 15 years, dozens of Cheryl's students have graduated from this program to go on to play collegiate golf.

What’s Included:

• Weekly Training Pod (4 participants per pod) for 9 weeks. 

• A one-hour private lesson each month (total of 3 per semester)

• Includes on-course instruction and monthly evening Zoom educational training sessions.

• FALL 2025 SEMESTER beginning first week of November

• SPRING 2026 SEMESTER beginning first week of March

• Choose a pod: Tuesdays 3pm-4:30pm or 4:30pm-6pm. Wednesdays from 4:30pm-6pm

• Investment per semester is $1,450 Heathrow Legacy members; $1,650 non-members.

 

 

High School Prep program

For juniors between the ages of 11-15 who would like to – or currently play – high school golf

Why It Works

The High School Prep program is a developmental competitive training program offered in 7 week cycles two times during the school year. There will be an individual lesson provided each semester along with weekly training sessions. The 90-minute group training classes include specific golf skill development as well as fundamental movement skills. Players can remain in the program for several semesters as there will be skills testing and progress reports provided each semester. Graduation from High School Prep into College Prep will be assessed on skill development, student goals and time commitments. This program is geared towards the newly competitive golfer.

• Customized group training – Wednesdays 4:30pm-6pm

• Fitness + Power + Speed will be emphasized during the program

• FALL 2025 SEMESTER – (Wednesdays) 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22 and 10/29

• SPRING 2026 SEMESTER – (Saturdays) 1/24,1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/21, 2/28, 3/7

• Investment per semester: $650 Heathrow Legacy members; $775 for non-members.

Our Primary and Secondary Junior Academy programs are designed for ages 6-12 and are coached by Miriam Piland-Rice, the junior specialist coach at Heathrow Legacy Club. Primary and Secondary will immerse younger golfers in basic technique, instill a love for the game and prepare participants for future competitive golf.
